Four abilities?! What is this madness?! Let's Play Pokemon Elite Redux! (2024)

Charmander/Charmeleon/Charizard/Mega Charizard X/Mega Charizard Y
Not too much has changed about the fire lizard's first two forms. Burnate is a nice innate to let Charmander use its physical coverage more easily- Body Slam or Mega Punch (now buffed to 95 power 100 accuracy) as a Fire-type move is one hell of a drug. Its possible abilities are Pyromancy, Flame Body and Flash Fire, and its innates are Burnate, Blaze and Solar Power.

Charizard, though? Hoo, boy. As has become common for many a romhack, Charizard is now Fire/Dragon-type, and this extends to all three of its forms- yes, that means MegaZard Y is also part dragon now. Base Charizard's possible abilities are Burnate, Aerilate and Tough Claws. Its innates are Blaze, Levitate, and Sun Worship.

Mega Charizard X is the physical attacking spec as usual, but it can also be a physical tank as well! Its only ability is Tough Claws, and its innates are Blaze, Levitate and Intimidate.

Mega Charizard Y is the sun-centric nuclear bomb it always has been, boosted even further into the stratosphere by now having Solar Power alongside Drought, especially since it now doesn't have a quad rocks weakness (and access to Draco Meteor, too- YIKES!). Its only ability is Drought, and its innates are Blaze, Levitate and Solar Power (!!).

Zigzagoon/Linoone/Zigzagoon-Galar/Linoone-Galar/Obstagoon
It's good at using Pickup? The first level cap is exactly 20, so you can evolve it into Linoone before the first gym. Its possible abilities are Pickup, Run Away and Limber, and its innates are Quick Feet and Gluttony.

Linoone has all the same abilities, and the same innates, except it also adds Field Explorer to its Innates.

Galarian Zigzagoon is way more threatening. On top of having a STAB-type that isn't normal, it features different abilities and innates. G-Zig only has one innate in Scrappy, and its abilities are Gluttony, Pickup and Quick Feet. Evolving into Galarian Linoone only adds one new innate, but when that one new Innate is Hyper Aggressive, that's good enough. Obstagoon arguably has _less_ offensive presence than Galarian Linoone because it actually _loses_ Hyper Aggressive when evolving!

Obstagoon is an entirely different beast from its Prevos. It completely overhauls its abilities and Innates. Obstagoon's possible abilities are Fighting Spirit, Stamina and Poison Heal, and its innates are Reckless, Guts and Defiant.

Poochyena/Mightyena
Stronger than you might think. It's got a slew of good innates, and natural access to Strong Jaw-boosted Crunch/Fire Fang/Thunder Fang/Ice Fang this early hits like a truck, especially since it also has Nocturnal to further boost Crunch's power, and Intimidate is great as always. Possible abilities are Intimidate, Rattled and Moxie, and Innates are Strong Jaw, Predator and Nocturnal.

Sadly, it loses Nocturnal for the less useful Stakeout upon evolving into Mightyena, but it also trades the not very useful Rattled for the far more useful Opportunist ability. You can also get Mightyena before the first gym, which is great, too.

Wurmple/Silcoon/Cascoon/Beautifly/Dustox
Wurmple is a first-stage earlygame bug and thus sucks, but you already knew that. Its possible abilities are Suction Cups, Poison Point and Shield Dust, and its innates are Swarm, Run Away and Sap Sipper.

Cascoon and Silcoon are absolutely identical in every way. Same stats, same abilities, same typing. Their abilities are Shed Skin and Poison Point, and their innates are Swarm, Battle Armor and Sap Sipper.

Beautifly is a Bug/Fairy-type now! Its stats are still meh, but its typing is nowhere near as abysmal as before (and it can also just straight-up negate either its Stealth Rock Weakness or its flying weakness with its abilities), and it's one of a few lucky Pokemon to get the immensely strong innate, Majestic Moth. Its possible abilities are Compound Eyes, Aerodynamics and Shield Dust, and its innates are Majestic Moth, Pixilate and Levitate.

Dustox remains Bug/Poison and is in many ways similar to Beautifly. They also have two of three abilities and Innates the same! Its possible abilities are Compound Eyes, Aerodynamics and Poison Point, and its innates are Majestic Moth, Nocturnal and Levitate.

Ponyta/Rapidash
Ponyta is packing some heat- shame it evolves at 36. Its low offenses aren't as much of an issue considering its Innates, though! Its abilities are Turboblaze, Striker and Reckless, and its innates are Speed Force, Flash Fire and Flame Body.

Rapidash is almost the same, except it trades off Flash Fire for Burnate.

Zorua/Zoroark
The Hisui 'mons aren't yet in this game, but Zorua's a goody nonetheless. The buffs to Illusion really make Zorua a threat now! Zorua can only have Illusion as its ability, and its innates are Insomnia and Prankster.

Zoroark is the same, but it gains Opportunist as a third Innate.

Sewaddle/Swadloon/Leavanny
Sewaddle is decently bulky, for a bug-type, especially on the special side thanks to the buffed Overcoat. Its only ability is Leaf Guard, and its innates are Swarm, Chlorophyll and Overcoat. Swadloon is the same.

Leavanny gains some offensive presence with its second possible ability, Keen Edge, but is otherwise identical to Swadloon Ability/Innate-wise.

Lillipup/Herdier/Stoutland
Doggo here is a bulkier alternative to Hoenn Zigzagoon- same only really having utility with Pickup, but at least it has Overcoat as an innate.

Herdier, like Linoone, can be acquired before Roxanne, and may be one of the single best answers for her, and can even has utility as an immensely bulky physical wall thanks to its new innates and abilities! Its possible abilities are Sand Rush, Intimidate and Scrappy, and its innates are Overcoat, Fur Coat (!!) and Filter (!!). Stoutland is the same, ability/innate-wise.

Bonsly/Sudowoodo
In the words of Brassius, the line is now Truleewoodo, becoming Rock/Grass-types. Bonsly's not very strong, but it does have some nice utility, courtesy of its newfound Rock/Grass-typing. Its possible abilities are Rock Head, Water Compaction and Sturdy, and its only innate is Raw Wood. With that being said, as you can tutor Mimic to Bonsly from the word go, Sudowoodo is criminally easy to get, and borderline invalidates most of Roxanne's Pokemon.

Sudowoodo gains Fort Knox as an innate, shoves Sturdy into an innate slot and replaces Sturdy's original slot with Juggernaut.

Klink/Klang/Klinklang
Klink is weird, but it can be effective in the right hands. It's primarily weird because of one of its innates. Its only ability is Steelworker, and its Innates are Plus, Full Metal Body, and the very weird Multi-Headed.

Klang is the same as Klink, except it gains Galvanize as a second ability, and Klinklang is the same as Klang, except it replaces Plus with Iron Barbs and Full Metal Body with Impenetrable, while adding Electric Surge as a third ability.

Mankey/Primeape
No Annihilape here to speak of, but Mankey is fine nonetheless. It's an offensive powerhouse early, though! Its possible abilities are Gorilla Tactics, Moxie and No Guard, and its Innates are Anger Point and Hyper Aggressive.

Primeape is the same, but adds Violent Rush as a third Innate.

Mienfoo/Mienshao
Mienfoo thankfully evolves earlier than before (but not enough to be Mienshao for the first gym- that'd just be OP). Its possible abilities are Limber, Regenerator and Iron Fist, and its innates are Inner Focus, Reckless and Speed Force.

Mienshao has the same abilities and also has Inner Focus, but replaces Reckless and Speed Force for Scrappy and Striker, instead.

Shuppet/Banette/Mega Banette
This game has Mega Evolutions too! Anyway, let's speak about Shuppet's line.

Shuppet can be used as a kamikaze bomb against particularly nasty foes, and it's pretty decent otherwise (but most 'mons are). Its possible abilities are Scare, Cursed Body and Insomnia, and its Innates are Vengeance, Haunted Spirit and Levitate.

Banette swaps Vengeance and Scare around so that Scare is an innate and Vengeance is an ability.

Mega Evolved Pokemon can also have multiple abilities, so ability choice can actually matter now, though Banette does not have this, as Mega Banette's only ability is Prankster. It does, however, change its Innates around- its new innates upon Mega Evolving are Intimidate, Magic Guard and Soul Eater.

Sandygast/Palossand
Sandygast is the very first weather-setting 'mon you have access to! It's also a lot bulkier now in spite of stat changes due to the buffed Water Compaction. Its possible abilities are Sand Stream (!!), Arena Trap (!!) and Fort Knox. Its innates are Water Compaction, Sand Force and Sand Veil.

Palossand ejects Sand Veil from its Innate List in favour of Self-Sufficient.

Goomy/Sliggoo/Goodra
Goomy only has two abilities, but it can be damn terrifying in the right circ*mstances. Its possible abilities are Sap Sipper and Gooey, and its innates are Amphibious, Poison Heal and Hydrate.

Sliggoo drops Hydrate for Sticky Hold, and gets Corrosion as a third ability. Goodra gets Hydrate back. Naturally, Poison Heal Goodra is a scary, scary thing.

Axew/Fraxure/Haxorus
Axew is the same old physically offensive Dragon-type it always has been, though it can also attempt to set up Dragon Dance as Haxorus do. Its possibile abilities are Intimidate, Growing Tooth and Moxie, and its Innates are Rivalry and Mold Breaker.

Fraxure trades off Growing Tooth for Keen Edge, and adds Shell Armor to its list of Innate.

Haxorus, however, is an entirely different beast, having a completely new set of innates and a new ability to boot. It trades off Moxie for Sheer Force, and its innates are now Beast Boost, Predator and Discipline.

Darumaka/Darmanitan
G-Darm exists, but we haven't seen it yet. Darm can now actually use Zen Mode as the condition for transforming is now just... having the ability. Weirdly, Zen Darm has its own set of abilities separate from non-Zen Mode Darmanitan. Is there a way to transform outside of battle? Darumaka's possible abilities are Hustle and Inner Focus, and its only ability is Flame Body.

Darmanitan's possible abilities are Gorilla Tactics, Sheer Force and Zen Mode, and its innates are Flame Body, Iron Fist and Turboblaze.

Zen Darmanitan's possible abilities are Sheer Force, Psychic Mind and Zen Mode, and its innates are Inner Focus, Impenetrable and Clear Body.

Smoochum/Jynx
As expected of a Baby Pokemon, Smoochum is awful. Jynx however, is perfectly competent, and actually usable as a Psychic Terrain setter, especially given how Jynx got a buff to its speed, boosting it to a very fast base 115!

Smoochum's possible abilities are Oblivious, Forewarn and Hydration, and its only innate is Dry Skin.

Jynx's possible abilities are Psychic Mind and Psychic Surge, and its innates are Dry Skin, Refrigerate and Amplifier.

Swinub/Piloswine/Mamoswine
Swinub is as Swinub does. The entire line is at home in Hail, so you'll want a Hail Team to use this thing with. Its possible abilities are Sheer Force and Oblivious, and its Innates are Snow Cloak and Slush Rush.

Piloswine retains Slush Rush, Snow Cloak and Sheer Force from Swinub, but its new abilities are Fur Coat and Mountaineer- the former actually gives you a reason to use it over Mamoswine- and it adds Growing Tooth to its Innate list.

Speaking of Mamoswine, it trades off Fur Coat and Mountaineer for Permafrost and Whiteout (because y'know it wasn't trying to beat you over the head that this thing is supposed to be used in Hail teams hard enough), though it keeps the same Innate list as Piloswine.

Diglett-Alola/Dugtrio-Alola
The kantonian version exists but has not been found yet.

Diglett-A is now almost completely superior to Diglett, as it now has the very thing that made the Kantonian form so much better. Its possible abilities are Sand Force, Arena Trap (!!) and Steelworker. Its innates are Tangling Hair and Sand Rush.

Dugtrio-A shuffles things around a bit. Sand Force and Sand Rush swap places, the former being an innate and the latter being an ability, and Dugtrio-A also gains access to Speed Force and Multi-Headed as Innates.

Wingull/Pelipper
Wingull is basic water bird. Its only ability is Hydration, and its innates are Keen Eye, Rain Dish and Flock.

Pelipper is doing what it has since Gen 7- setting up Rain, though in this game it can also serve as an effective Kamikaze Tailwind setter. Its possible abilities are Drizzle, Hydration and Air Blower, and its innates are the same as Wingull's.

Shellos/Gastrodon
Shellos is a tank, especially now that it has passive recovery from the word go! Its possible abilities are Shell Armor, Storm Drain and Regenerator, and its Innates are Sticky Hold, Self-Sufficient and Limber.

Gastrodon is almost identical, except for the fact that Limber in its innate list is replaced with Groundate.

Shinx/Luxio/Luxray
Shinx undergrows gradual changes at it evolves, though its innates remain the same until it becomes Luxray (who is now Electric/Dark, as is common for hacks).

Shinx's possible abilities are Intimidate and Electric Burst, and its Innates are Short Circuit, Illuminate and Guts.

Luxio has the same innate list and Shinx, and gets Intimidate and Electric Burst, but also adds Predator as an ability.

Luxray shuffles things around. Predator and Guts swap places, and Luxray replaces Illuminate as an innate with Bad Luck.

Snubbull/Granbull
Snubbull is super basic: only one innate. Its possible abilities are Intimidate, Pixilate and Rattled, and its one innate is Quick Feet.

Granbull shakes things up. Its attack and speed have gone up slightly, and it's now a Fairy/Dark-type! Its possible abilities are Intimidate, Guts and Violent Rush, and its innates are Fighting Spirit, Strong Jaw and Quick Feet.

Kricketot/Kricketune
Delelelewoooooooop

*ahem* The line is now Bug/Normal. Kricketot evolves super early, (level 10) so it's on par with Wurmple. Its possible abilities are Shed Skin and Run Away, and its sole innate is Swarm.

Kricketune is actually much, MUCH better now thanks to a slew of useful abilities and innates! It's actually another great answer to Roxanne's Onix, believe it or not! Why? Because it can eliminate the Sandstorm Onix sets up, AND has an immunity to Rock! Its possible abilities are Soundproof, Perfectionist and Drizzle (!!), and its Innates are Mountaineer, Technician and Buginize. It did lose some Attack in exchange for a special attack and speed buff, though.

Pancham/Pangoro
Pancham is yet another earlygame Fighting-type. Its possible abilities are Mold Breaker and Iron Fist, and its sole innate is Scrappy.

Pangoro adds Precise Fist to its Ability List, and Anger Point and Hyper Aggressive to its Innate List.

Blitzle/Zebstrika
Blitzle's line are speed demons. Both Pokemon have the possible abilities Reckless, Speed Force and Momentum, and their innates are Sap Sipper, Illuminate and Motor Drive.

Grubbin/Charjabug/Vikavolt
Grubbin is pathetically bad, but what would you expect from 99% of non-evolved bug-types? Thankfully, you can evolve it into Charjabug before the first gym. Its sole ability is Pickup, and its innates are Swarm and Sap Sipper.

Charjabug, sadly, is not much better. It does have slightly better abilities and innates though! Its possible abilities are Shell Armor and Galvanize, and its innates are Swarm, Battery and Minus.

Vikavolt, though, is a menace. It got decently sized buffs to its attack and defense, and an absolutely MASSIVE buff to its speed (It's now base 109, technically making Vikavolt equivalent to a Pseudo, as it now fills the checkboxes, as its BST is now 600). If that wasn't enough, Vikavolt has some very dangerous innates and abilities to choose from. Its possible abilities are Speed Boost (!!), Aerodynamics and Overcharge, and its innates are Swarm, Levitate and Electrocytes.

Magikarp/Gyarados/Mega Gyarados
It's freaking Magikarp, did you think the base form was going to be good? Magikarp's possible abilities are Marvel Scale and Rattled, and its innates are Swift Swim and Limber.

Gyarados, though? Might just be the single strongest Pokemon you get access to before the first Gym (it JUST fits into the level cap!) It's got three incredibly powerful abilities and innates to go along with its newfound Water/Dragon-typing. Its possible abilities are Intimidate, Moxie and Overwhelm, and its Innates are Levitate, Aerilate and Sea Guardian.

Mega Evolving Gyarados makes it a Water/Dark-type as Vanilla, but don't let that fool you- Mega Gyarados is now an extremely massive upgrade thanks to its new stuff. Its sole ability is Hyper Aggressive (!!) and its innates are Mold Breaker, Beast Boost and Levitate (so it doesn't lose its Ground Immunity when Mega Evolving!)

Tentacool/Tentacruel
Fast and Bulky as usual. Its possible abilities are Liquid Ooze and Neuroforce, and its innates are Clear Body, Poison Touch and Water Absorb.

Tentacruel has the same innates, and adds Water Veil to the list of possible abilities.

Skrelp/Dragalge
Dragalge gained some HP and Attack. Otherwise vanilla. Skrelp's possible abilities are Swift Swim and Propeller Tail, and its innates are Adaptability and Poison Touch.

Dragalge's possible abilities are Swift Swim, Overwhelm and Contrary, and Innates are Adaptability, Corrosion and Aquatic- this makes Dragalge the first Triple-typed Pokemon listed, being Poison/Dragon/Water.

Lotad/Lombre/Ludicolo
Ludicolo got slight stat buffs, but the line is mostly similar to vanilla. The entire line's possible abilities are Swift Swim, Chlorophyll and Own Tempo, and their innates are Seaweed, Rain Dish and Hydration.

Seedot/Nuzleaf/Shiftry
Shiftry is in the same position as Ludicolo- slight stat buffs, but mostly similar to vanilla. Seedot's possible abilities are Early Bird and Defiant, and its innates are Overgrow and Chlorophyll. Nuzleaf adds Moxie as a possible ability and Nocturnal as an innate, and these carry over to Shiftry.

Bidoof/Bibarel
The 'doof is here and taking no prisoners. Bibarel got increased bulk to give it slightly better longevity through the midgame, and of course it evolves before Roxanne making it a great 'mon in that fight. The line's possible abilities are Simple, Looter and Moody, and the line's innates are Unaware, Growing Tooth and Field Explorer.

Tympole/Palpitoad/Seismitoad
The line is mostly similar to vanilla, though Seismitoad did gain some stat buffs. Tympole and Palpitoad have Swift Swim and Immunity as possible abilities, and Water Absorb and Hydration as innates. Seismitoad adds Earthbound to its possible abilities and Poison Touch to its innates.

Gothita/Gothorita/Gothitelle
Gothita starts out unassuming but it gets terrifying real quick, especially given its access to one of the most dangerous abilities in the game. Gothita's possible abilities are Frisk, Competitive and Shadow Tag (!!), and its innates are Nocturnal and Psychic Mind. The same is true of Gothorita, and Gothitelle just adds Magic Bounce (!!) as an innate.

Ralts/Kirlia/Gardevoir/Mega Gardevoir/Gallade/Mega Gallade
The Ralts line is a branch evo, but I'm covering them all here.

Ralts is terrible. That's all there is to it. Its possible abilities are Telepathy, Trace and Synchronize, and Ralts has no innates.

Kirlia is slightly less terrible. It replaces Telepathy with Psychic Mind, and actually has an innate in Serene Grace.

The final evos are where the line gets good. Gardevoir lost some attack to boost its base speed to 100, and it gained a slew of new stuff! Gardevoir's possible abilities are Queenly Majesty, Soul-Heart and Psychic Surge (!!), while its innates are Serene Grace, Magic Guard (!!) and Dreamcatcher.

Mega Gardevoir only has Pixilate as an ability, but it did gain 15 points to Defense to keep its BST 100 above the base form's. Its only ability is Pixilate, and its innates are Serene Grace, Magic Guard and Soul-Heart.

Gallade is Gardevoir's physical counterpart- it lost some Special Attack to boost its base speed to 100, and also gained a slew of new stuff. Gallade's possible abilities are Speed Force, Perfectionist and Sheer Force, and its innates are Keen Edge, Fatal Precision and Avenger.

Mega Gallade gained 5 speed, and 10 Special Defense, but lost a whopping 30 points in base attack. This however, is fine, because Mega Gallade is still stronger than before, thanks to its new ability. Mega Gallade's only ability is Intrepid Sword (!!!) and its innates are Keen Edge, Fatal Precision and Inner Focus.

Surskit/Masquerain
Surskit is terrible as expected of an earlygame unevolved bug. Its possible abilities are Swift Swim and Rain Dish and its only innate is Compound Eyes.

Masquerain is slightly bulkier at the cost of some SpA. Most notably though is that it now retains Surskit's Bug/Water-typing. And the SpA Loss was probably for the best considering that Masquerain gets Majestic Moth. Masquerain's possible abilities are Intimidate, Scare and Unnerve, and its innates are Compound Eyes, Majestic Moth and Levitate.

Rookidee/Corvisquire/Corviknight
Intimidate is a nice ability, but Rookidee needs to evolve into Corviknight before it actually can be considered good. Its possible abilities are Keen Eye, Reckless and Field Explorer, and its innates are Intimidate and Flock- these are also carried over to Corvisquire.

Corviknight replaces Keen Eye with Stakeout and Flock with Unnerve. It also gains Mirror Armor as a third Innate.

Mareep/Flaaffy/Ampharos/Mega Ampharos
Mareep and Flaaffy are only good defensively. Their only ability is Static, and their innates are Minus and Fluffy.

Ampharos is a massive step up, though. It's now always an Electric/Dragon, as opposed to having to Mega Evolve to get the typing. It's also got a slew of good innates and abilities, and even got a HP buff from 90 to 110, making it a defensive powerhouse. Its possible abilities are Short Circuit, Lightning Rod and Electric Surge, and its innates are Dazzling, Illuminate and Overwhelm.

Mega Evolving Ampharos forces you to give up your immunity to priority moves, but the benefits more than make up for it. Mega Ampharos' only ability is Transistor (!), and its innates are Fluffy (!!), Illuminate and Overwhelm.

Oddish/Gloom/Vileplume/Bellossom
A surprisingly good 'mon all things considered! It helps that Vileplume got boosts to every stat except attack and speed. The main line's possible abilities are Poison Absorb, Chloroplast and Sweet Veil, and their innates are Regenerator (!), Grass Pelt and Natural Cure.

Bellossom is a more offensive take on the line. Its possible abilities are Chloroplast, Harvest and Triage, and its innates are Chlorophyll, Leaf Guard and Healer.

Ekans/Arbok
Arbok gained stat buffs and is now Poison/Dark! Pretty good, all things considered! The line's possible abilities are Merciless, Poisonate and Intimidate, and their innates are Solenoglyphs, Shed Skin and Coil Up.

Stunky/Skuntank
Skuntank gained some Attack and that's it. the line's possible abilities are Poison Point, Anticipation and Run Away, and their innates are Aftermath, Stench and Keen Eye.

Vulpix/Ninetales
The Alolan forms exist but have not been seen yet. Ninetales got a slight SpA buff and is now a Fire/Fairy-type! That, alongside the always-useful ability to set sun, makes Ninetales a goody. Vulpix's possible abilities are Pyromancy, Flash Fire and Drought (!!), and its innates are Quick Feet and Burnate.

Ninetales' possible abilities are Flaming Soul, Pixilate and Drought, and its innates are Queenly Majesty, Pyromancy and Flash Fire.

Fletchling/Fletchinder/Talonflame
Smogbirb over here is doing smogbirb things. Fletchling's possible abilities are Flame Body and Big Pecks, and its innates are Flock and Keen Eye.

Fletchinder has the same innates as Fletchling, and adds Speed Force to its possible abilities.

Talonflame replaces Flame Body with Predator and Keen Eye with Violent Rush, on top of adding its age-old standby, Gale Wings, to its Innate List.

Salandit/Salazzle
Salazzle has a slew of great things this time, and is actually the second Pokemon to be listed, as one of its innates adds an additional type to it- Salazzle is actually a Fire/Poison/Dragon-type!

Salandit's possible abilities are Poison Absorb, Competitive and Exploit Weakness, and its innates are Corrosion and Poison Touch.

Salazzle's possible abilities are Merciless, Competitive and Exploit Weakness, and its innates are Corrosion, Queenly Majesty and Half-Drake.

Dratini/Dragonair/Dragonite/Mega Dragonite
In Smogon's AAA Metagame, Dragonite got banned because of the Aerilate Extreme Speed set. Guess what one of Dragonite's abilities is? Oh, and it can also Mega Evolve in this game for even more ridiculous ESpeed destruction!

Dratini's only ability is Regenerator. Its innates are Multiscale (!) Marvel Scale and Shed Skin, and Dragonair is the same.

Dragonite is a monster because of one of its abilities. Its abilities are Dragon's Maw, Aerilate (!!) and Prism Scales, and its innates are Multiscale, Overwhelm and Rampage.

Dragonite has a Mega in this game, which turns it into a Dragon/Electric-type! The stat boosts it gains from Mega Evolving is 25 to Attack, Special Attack, Defense and Special Defense, and it becomes a Dragon/Electric-type. Its only ability is Galvanize (!!), and its innates are Multiscale, Discipline and Thundercall.

Aron/Lairon/Aggron/Mega Aggron
Aron's main claim to fame is as the physically bulkiest Pokemon you can get in the earlygame. Its Lead Coat innate and Eviolite, it can perform baffling feats of physical bulk, like, as shown in the Roxanne fight, living a Superpower from her Lairon... WITHOUT Sturdy! Its abilities are Rock Head, Iron Barbs and Sturdy, and its one innate is Lead Coat. Lairon has the same abilities and Lead Coat, but it adds Juggernaut and Impenetrable to the innate list. Aggron shuffles things around: It retains Lead Coat and Impenetrable, but Juggernaut is now an ability alongside a newly-acquired Heatproof and the carried over Iron Barbs, and in turn Aggron now has Filter as its third innate.

Mega Aggron is the first Mega we've seen to have more than one ability. In this case, it retains whatever ability Aggron had before mega evolving. Its innates are mostly the same, too, save for the fact that it replaces Filter with the more powerful Primal Armor (essentially turning M!Aggron into a physical Blissey, albeit one without recovery- but it DOES have Body Press).

Deino/Zweilous/Hydreigon
Deino's evo levels have been brought down but it's still rough using it at first. It can use Moody strats early, though. Deino's possible abilities are Hustle, Sheer Force and Moody, and its innates are Gluttony and Hyper Aggressive. Zweilous has the same abilities, but its innates are slightly different: It replaces Hyper Aggressive with Multi-Headed and adds Predator to the innate list.

Hydreigon completely overhauls things. Its possible abilities are Scare, Mega Launcher and Beast Boost, and its innates are Multi-Headed, Levitate and Predator.

Azurill/Marill/Azumarill
Azurill maybe the least garbage of the baby Pokemon, but that's only because it has Huge Power, and that's still not a high bar to clear. Its possible abilities are Sap Sipper and Huge Power, and its only innate is Thick Fat.

Marill shuffles things around and is actually pretty decent. Marill's possible abilities are Sap Sipper and Swift Swim, and its innates are Thick Fat, Hydration and Huge Power.

Azumarill had all its stats except its HP buffed- 15 to attack, 10 to Defense, Special Defense and Speed, and 50 to Special Attack. This makes Azumarill far more potent, especially considering you can get it before Roxanne. Oh, and it can also get passive recovery through its third ability! Its possible abilities are Sap Sipper, Swift Swim and Water Veil, and its innates are the same as Marill's: Thick Fat, Hydration and Huge Power.

Taillow/Swellow
This bird is extra-strength aggressive. Swellow got a slight boost to its SpA. Great for the Boomburst sets, and its new abilities are especially deadly.

Taillow's possible abilities are Tangled Feet and Scrappy, and its innates are Flock, Keen Eye and Guts.

Swellow has the same innates, but its abilities are different- it still has Scrappy, but its other two abilities are Air Blower and Gale Wings.

Sentret/Furret
Earlygame normal-type common 'mon? Yeah, this thing ain't great. Furret does have potential, though! Sentret's possible abilities are Quick Feet, Run Away and Sap Sipper, and its innates are Keen Eye, Field Explorer and Fur Coat (!).

Furret gained points to its Attack SpD and Spe. Its possible abilities are Momentum (!), Normalize and Adaptability (!), and its innates are Scrappy, Field Explorer and Fur Coat.

Numel/Camerupt/Mega Camerupt
Numel struggles early due to Aquas using water-types a lot, but it's fine later. Numel's possible abilities are Stamina and Simple, and its one innate is Own Tempo.

Camerupt got some stat boosts to its bulk, gaining 20 to its HP and 10 to its defensive stats. Its possible abilities are Stamina, Anger Point and Sheer Force, and its innates are Magma Armor, Solid Rock and Molten Down.

Mega Camerupt is a weather 'mon now! Its only ability is Drought, and its innates are Magma Armor, Artillery and Molten Down.

Litleo/Pyroar
Litleo is a common 'mon and its Fire-type works against it, though Pyroar is fine later. Its possible abilities are Unnerve, Competitive and Moxie, and its one innate is Rivalry.

Pyroar got a buff to its Special Attack, gaining 10 points. Its possible abilities are Intimidate (!), Competitive and Soul-Heart (!), and its innates are Opportunist, Rivalry and Predator.

Budew/Roselia/Roserade
Budew is a baby Pokemon. It is therefore bad. You can't even evolve it before Roxanne. Its possible abilities are Poison Point and Leaf Guard, and its innates are Natural Cure and Chlorophyll.

Roselia is better but still meh. Its possible abilities are Leaf Guard, Long Reach and Technician, and its innates are Natural Cure, Chlorophyll and Poison Point.

Roserade is good though. It retains Roselia's innates, but its possible abilities are different, as it instead has Technician, Merciless and Predator.

Bunnelby/Diggersby
It may be an earlygame normal-type but it has Huge Power and can evolve just before Roxanne. Bunnelby's and Diggersby's innates and possible abilities are almost identical: they both have Pickup, Groundate and Cheek Pouch as possible abilities and two of their innates are Huge Power and Growing Tooth. The difference is their third innate: Bunnelby has Quick Feet whereas Diggersby has Huge Power.

Ledyba/Ledian
Ledyba is hot garbo, but this game went out of its way to try to salvage Ledian and mostly succeeded. Ledyba's possible abilities are Run Away and Rattled, and its innates are Swarm and Early Bird.

Ledian, meanwhile, got massive buffs- a full 60 points to its attack and 20 points to its speed makes it a powerful physical attacker- helped by its new Bug/Fighting-typing! Its possible abilities are Aerilate, Buginize and Aerodynamics, and its innates are Raging Boxer (!), Iron Fist and Levitate. This makes Ledian a strong choice to fight Roxanne with, especially since it evolves BEFORE Roxanne!

Shroomish/Breloom/Mega Breloom
Toxic Orb is Shroomish's best friend. It acts as a power booster AND a healing item in one! Shroomish's only ability is Poison Heal, and its innates are Effect Spore, Toxic Boost and Quick Feet.

Breloom shuffles things a bit. It now has three abilities, the others aside from Poison Heal being Precise Fist and Long Reach, and it replaces Quick Feet with Technician.

Breloom has a Mega in this game, which beefs up is bulk to a massive degree! Mega Breloom's only ability is Fungal Infection, and its innates are Perfectionist, Technician and Super Luck.

Phantump/Trevenant
Phantump's been taking cues from Pokemon Unite, generally being a bulkier support 'mon. Its possible abilities are Vengeance, Cursed Body and Grassy Surge (!) and its innates are Natural Cure, Harvest and Haunted Spirit. Trevenant is almost identical, only trading Natural Cure for Tough Claws. Trevenant may have lost some attack to gain some bulk but Tough Claws makes up for it. Phantump can actually evolve before Roxanne, making Trevenant an excellent choice for facing Roxanne!

Pidove/Tranquill/Unfezsant
Likely the worst of the earlygame normal/flying birds. The entire line has one ability and three innates: Super Luck for the ability, Keen Eye, Big Pecks and Rivalry for the Innates.

Pidgey/Pidgeotto/Pidgeot/Mega Pidgeot
Bird up. From the worst of the Normal/Flying Birds to arguably the best of them. The Pidgey line's stats have been shuffled around so that it can attack on either side of the attacking spectrum, and its abilities and innates support this. Pidgey's possible abilities are No Guard, Guts and Big Pecks, and its innates are Flock, Keen Eye and Early Bird. It stays this way until Pidgeot, who replaces Guts with Majestic Bird and Early Bird with Giant Wings. Pidgeot also carries all of these innates and abilities into its Mega Form, making Mega Evolution a stat difference only.

Paras/Parasect
Paras is still hot garbo. Its only ability is Overcoat and its innates are Effect Spore and Dry Skin.

Parasect, meanwhile, is an entirely different beast. As a now Grass/Bug/Ghost-type, Parasect comes with some nifty new tools for its new typing, and even gained boosts to all of its stats except speed- including a massive 60 points to its special defense! Parasect's possible abilities are Self-Sufficient, Shadow Tag (!!!) and Soul Eater, and its innates are Effect Spore, Phantom and Opportunist.

Buneary/Lopunny/Mega Lopunny
Physical attackers are cruising for a bruising against this brawling bunny. Buneary's possible abilities are Normalize, Run Away and Quick Feet, and its innates are Limber and Fur Coat. Buneray can evolve before Roxanne, too!

Lopunny lost some defense to gain some speed. Also, it's a Normal/Fighting-type now! Lopunny's possible abilities are Normalize, Fighting Spirit and Technician and its innates are Limber, Fur Coat and Striker.

Mega Evolving Lopunny beefs its stats up. Its only ability is Scrappy, and its innates are Limber, Fur Coat and Striker.

Pichu/Pikachu/Raichu/Raichu-Alola
Earlygame Electric-type, and hey, the Light Ball Exists and you get it for free, so why not run ham with the mascot for a bit? Inherited from IE, The Light Ball now also works on Raichu (both forms), but only at 50% effectiveness. The Kantonian Raichu Line all share the same abilities and innates- their possible abilities are Electrocytes, Static and Electric Burst, and their innates are Short Circuit, Plus and Ground Shock. Alolan Raichu takes it in a different direction, being both a setter, and abuser, of Electric Terrain. Its possible abilities are Psychic Mind, Short Circuit and Electric Surge (!!), and its innates are Surge Surfer(!!) Levitate and Ground Shock.

Croagunk/Toxicroak
Croagunk and Toxicroak are mostly vanilla. Croagunk's possible abilities are Poison Touch, Opportunist and Poison Absorb, and its innates are Dry Skin and Amphibious. Toxicroak is mostly the same, except Opportunist is now an innate, Hydrate has been put in its place, and Poison Absorb has been replaced by Fighting Spirit.

Sizzlipede/Centiskorch
The Galarian Fire Centipede is mostly vanilla. The two share the possible abilities of Magma Armor, Coil Up and Solar Power as well as the innates of White Smoke and Flash Fire. The only difference between the two is that Centiskorch adds Molten Down as a third innate.

Meowth-Galar/Perrserker
The Kantonian and Alolan forms of Meowth exist, but we haven't seen them yet. G-Meowth is mostly vanilla. Its possible abilities are Sniper, Rough Skin and Unnerve, and its innates are Tough Claws, Opportunist and Perfectionist.

Perrserker has different innates and abilities. Its possible abilities are Fur Coat, Looter and Iron Barbs, and its innates are Battle Armor, Tough Claws and Steely Spirit.

NidoranF/Nidorina/Nidoqueen
The Female Nidoran takes a more defensive lean compared to the male. Nidoran and Nidorina share the same possible abilities and innate, not just with each other, but with their male counterpart: Poison Point and Hustle for abilities, Rivalry for Innate.

Nidoqueen, meanwhile, adds Poisonate as an ability, and Thick Fat and Queenly Majesty as Innates.

NidoranM/Nidorino/Nidoking
The more aggressive of the Nidos. Nidoran and Nidorino share the same possible abilities and innate not just with each other, but with their female counterpart: Poison Point and Hustle for abilities, Rivalry for the Innate.

Nidoking, meanwhile, adds Sheer Force and Poisonate as abilities, shunting Poison Point to an innate, and adding Rampage to the Innate list too.

Petilil/Lilligant
The main change to this line is that they are now Grass/Fairy like their counterparts, the Cottonee line. Petilil's possible abilities are Solar Power, Leaf Guard and Chloroplast, and its innates are Chlorophyll and Natural Cure. Lilligant just adds Overgrow to the innate list.

Cottonee/Whimsicott
This line is basically vanilla. Cottonee has Prankster, Sticky Hold and Leaf Guard as possible abilities, and Infiltrator, Chlorophyll and Cotton Down as Innates. Whimsicott just replaces Sticky Hold with Pixilate.

Igglybuff/Jigglypuff/Wigglytuff
Wigglytuff got some stat buffs to make it viable. Igglybuff and Jigglypuff share the same Abilities and Innates: their possible abilities are Sweet Dreams, Competitive and Magic Guard, and their innates are Cute Charm, Inflatable and Let's Roll. Wigglytuff actually shares almost all of this. The only difference is that Let's Roll is replaced with Fluffy (!).

Eevee/Jolteon/Vaporeon/Flareon/Espeon/Umbreon/Leafeon/Glaceon/Sylveon
Thanks to the Eevee Devolver in Rustboro you can mix and match the Eeveelutions' movesets! Flareon also got some stat buffs- it gained HP and Speed at the cost of SpA and SpD.

Eevee's possible abilities are Adaptability, Prankster and Unaware, and it only has Cute Charm as an innate.

Jolteon's possible abilities are Speed Boost, Electric Burst and Electric Surge, and its innates are Short Circuit, Lightning Rod and Illuminate.

Vaporeon's possible abilities are Rain Dish, Regenerator and Drizzle (!!), and its innates are Water Veil, Water Absorb and Hydration.

Flareon's possible abilities are Reckless, Guts and Flaming Soul, and its innates are Flash Fire, Quick Feet and Rivalry.

Espeon's possible abilities are Soul-Heart, Sage Power and Psychic Surge (!), and its innates are Magic Bounce, Avenger and Psychic Mind.

Umbreon's possible abilities are Bad Luck, Self Sufficient and Soul Linker, and its innates are Predator, Nocturnal and Dark Aura (!).

Leafeon's possible abilities are Keen Edge, Avenger and Grassy Surge (!), and its innates are Big Leaves, Feline Prowess and Natural Cure.

Glaceon's possible abilities are Ice Scales, Whiteout and Frozen Soul, and its innates are Ice Body, Refrigerate and Slush Rush.

Sylveon's possible abilities are Fairy Aura (!), Serene Grace and Misty Surge (!), and its innates are Pixilate, Dragonslayer and Opportunist.

Glameow/Purugly

Glameow has neat utility early, and Purugly is a freaking menace. Glameow's possible abilities are Run Away and Rattled, and its innates are Hypnotist, Limber and Quick Feet.

Purugly's possible abilities are Intimidate (!), Defiant and Moxie, and its innates are Hyper Aggressive (!), Fur Coat (!) and Thick Fat. Purugly also gains slight boosts to its Attack and Special Defense.

Psyduck/Golduck

Golduck holds an interesting place as a weather superiority 'mon, featuring ways to prevent the foe from removing rain (as well as setting it up and abusing it). Psyduck's possible abilities are Insomnia, Cloud Nine and Drizzle (!!) and its innates are Weather Control, Psychic Mind and Damp.

Golduck is also now a Water/Psychic-type. Its possible abilities are Tough Claws, Sage Power and Drizzle (!!), and its innates are Weather Control, Psychic Mind and Swift Swim (!).

Tynamo/Eelektrik/Eelektross
The classic "zero-weakness" electric-type, except not any more because they got a new type in Water thanks to an innate of theirs (or at least, Tynamo and Eelektrik do- Eelektross is just naturally Electric/Water).

Tynamo's possible abilities are Electrocytes, Hydrate and Swift Swim, and its innates are Plus, Levitate and Aquatic. Eelektrik shares this exactly.

Eelektross' possible abilities are Predator, Hydrate and Swift Swim, and its innates are Levitate, Electrocytes and Artillery.

Zubat/Golbat/Crobat/Mega Crobat
The age-old thorn in peoples' sides. Crobat now has a mega so that's neat! Zubat's possible abilities are Inner Focus, Infiltrator and Opportunist, and its innates are Sniper and Nocturnal.

Golbat moves Infiltrator to an innate slot, putting Scavenger in its place, and replaces Inner Focus with Mountaineer.

Crobat, who has +10 to its SpA, replaces Sniper with Soundproof, Scavenger with Momentum and Opportunist with Tinted Lens.

Mega Crobat is the first Mega covered who has three unique abilities based on the ability of its Pre-Mega Form. Crobat with Mountaineer will gain Shadow Shield upon Mega Evolving, Crobat with Momentum will get Nosferatu upon Mega Evolving, and Crobat with Tinted Lens will get Amplifier upon Mega Evolving. Mega Crobat's innates are Phantom, Spectral Shroud and Scare. Spectral Shroud is unique to Mega Crobat, and Mega Crobat is also our first Triple-typed Mega Evolution, becoming a Poison/Flying/Ghost-type!

Wooper/Quagsire
The devs haven't even finished adding in all the Gen 8 'mons so it should come as no surprise that Paldean Wooper/Clodsire are nowhere to be found. There is data on the wiki that suggests that Quagsire is planned to have a mega evolution, though, but for now there are no details. It can evolve for Roxanne, too.

Wooper's possible abilities are Oblivious and Rain Dish, and its innates are Unaware and Water Absorb.

Quagsire's Attack, Defense, Special Attack and Special Defense have all been increased to 95! Its possible abilities are Hydrate, Groundate and Water Veil, and its innates are Unaware, Water Absorb and Regenerator.

Woobat/Swoobat
The other, less cool bats. They're mostly vanilla. Woobat's possible abilities are Aerodynamics and Simple, and its innates are Unaware and Soundproof. Swoobat got a slight buff to special attack, and its innates and abilities are mostly the same as Woobat, only it adds Loud Bang to the innate list.

Stunfisk
One of my least favourite Pokemon of all time, but the derpy appearance belies a deceptively competent threat. Stunfisk's possible abilities are Arena Trap (!!), Static and Electric Surge (!) and its abilities are Unaware, Amphibious and Dry Skin.

Wishiwashi
Wishiwashi is practically vanilla. It only has one ability, that being its signature Schooling. Its innates, though, are definitely a big plus to it: Water Veil, Regenerator and Multiscale. It's possible to get Wishiwashi-School in time for Roxanne, too!

Seel/Dewgong/Mega Dewgong
Another 'mon that's receiving a custom mega in this game! Seel got some bonuses to its Special Stats, at the cost of some defense. Seel's possible abilities are Water Veil and Swift Swim, and its innates are Thick Fat and Fur Coat (!).

Dewgong also got buffs to its Attack, Special Attack and Special Defense, at the cost of some Defense. Dewgong's possible abilities are Fur Coat (!), Ice Scales (!) and Permafrost, and its innates are Thick Fat, Water Veil and North Wind (!).

Mega Dewgong, like Mega Crobat, has three unique abilities based on its pre-mega ability. Fur Coat Dewgong get Hardened Sheath, Ice Scales Dewgong get Lightning Rod, and Permafrost Dewgong get Cold Rebound. Either way, its innates are Arctic Fur (!!), Water Veil and Hydrate. Hardened Sheath, Cold Rebound and Arctic Fur are all unique to Mega Dewgong.

Snorunt/Glalie/Mega Glalie/Froslass
Another Branch Evo here. Snorunt is weak but you already knew that. Snorunt's possible abilities are Refrigerate and Moody, and its only innate is Ice Body.

Glalie has gained increased attack and speed at the cost of its defenses. Its possible abilities are Refrigerate, Rock Head and Whiteout, and its innates are Ice Body, Moody and Looter.

Mega Glalie has three abilities based on Glalie's Pre-mega, but only one is different, as Refrigerate and Moody swap places- Moody becomes Mega Glalie's first ability and Refrigerate becomes Mega Glalie's second Innate. Either way, its other two abilities are the same as the base form's, and its other two innates are Levitate and Snow Warning (!).

Froslass gained a buff to its Special Attack. Its possible abilities are Bad Luck, Refrigerate and Whiteout, and its Innates are Ice Body, Cursed Body and Slush Rush.

Sneasel/Weavile
Sneasel is mostly held back by the fact that you have to beat Roxanne to evolve it, meaning you can't have a Weavile to fight Roxanne with. Its attack has been slightly lowered, but this is understandable as it now has ways to boost its power beyond just Technician. Its possible abilities are Hyper Aggressive (!), Technician and Fatal Precision, and its innates are Tough Claws, Inner Focus and Infiltrator.

Weavile shuffles things around a bit. Its possible abilities are Hyper Aggressive, Violent Rush and Fatal Precision, and its innates are Tough Claws, Predator and Technician.

Bergmite/Avalugg
The Bergmite Line has gained boosts to its Special Defense- Avalugg's now sits at a decent base 86. The line also has nearly the same abilities and innates: Both Pokemon have Sturdy and Regenerator as possible abilities as well as Permafrost, Impenetrable and Self-Sufficient as Innates. The primary different is their third ability: Bergmite's is Battle Armor, Avalugg's is Fort Knox.

Vanillite/Vanillish/Vanilluxe
Vanilluxe got a buff to its speed- it's now base 95! Pretty good! Shame it has to go through two Gyms that are terrible for it before it can evolve into Vanilluxe though.

Vanillite and Vanillish have the same possible abilities and innates: the abilities are Refrigerate, Snow Warning and Weak Armor, and the innates are Permafrost, Ice Body and Slush Rush. Vanilluxe is almost the same, except it replaces Permafrost with Multi-Headed.

Spheal/Sealeo/Walrein
The Spheal line is mostly vanilla until it becomes Walrein. Spheal and Sealeo have the same possible abilities and innates: Sheer Force, Refrigerate and Oblivious for abilities, Thick Fat, Ice Body and Let's Roll for Innates. Walrein replaces Oblivious with Snow Warning (!) and Let's Roll with Growing Tooth.

Four abilities?! What is this madness?! Let's Play Pokemon Elite Redux! (2024)
